  1. What's Old Is New Again Knitting Workshop

    February 24, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Chelmsford Public Library

    Inspired by the activities described in the Nightingale, Kathy Fitzpatrick will show attendees of this program simple projects that they can make using old or discarded yarn or half-finished projects, including a simple patchwork blanket. Attendees should have at least a beginner's knowledge of knitting and should bring needles and either yarn, a half finished project, or an old hand knit sweater that can be taken apart for materials. Limited materials will be available at the program. The presenter recommends the following needles for yarn weight: Fingering/sock. US 3-5 Worsted. US 7-8 Chunky/Bulky. US 9-10 Attendees are also invited to bring their own projects to share or receive advice.

  2. Science Cafe: Women at Work in Male-Dominated Professions

    February 26, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Chelmsford Public Library

    In this talk, Johanna Choo of UMass Lowell will recount the challenges she faced throughout her career as a researcher and instructor and what her experiences have taught her regarding the best way to deal with overt and covert sex discrimination in the work place. She will also speak about how her work life has influenced her social and family life and the challenges facing mothers in juggling work and family obligations.
