Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement, author talk with Barbara Berenson

Wednesday, March 20

Barbara Berenson, author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement: Revolutionary Reformers, tells the story of the national suffrage movement and gives this state’s suffragists the attention they deserve. Long before the Civil War, Lucy Stone and other abolitionists launched the organized women's movement. After the war, state activists founded the Boston-based American Woman Suffrage Association to lead campaigns across the country. Their work laid the foundation for the next generation of suffragists to triumph over tradition. Barbara Berenson earned her law degree from Harvard Law School and is a Senior Attorney at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Ms. Berenson will have books for sale and will be available to sign after the program. The Civic Engagement REACT Program is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
